For
a number of reasons, I have decided to put most
of my recorded music online as reasonable quality
MP3s at no charge. Donations are most welcome
and can be made via
PayPal. If you would like to make a donation
but would prefer not using paypal, please get
in touch with me at catherine.fiain@gmail.com.
All funds will go
towards putting The
Sun and the Wind Project in motion. The minimum
is set at $2 as anything lower gets pretty much
eaten up by paypal fees. Of course, I encourage
you to give as generously as you see fit! All
contributions will be deeply appreciated and carefully
made use of. |
|
You may make audio
CDs of the music, put it on an ipod, share it
with friends, come back to the page as often
as you wish. Whatever suits you. The music is
all under copyright and registered. Anything
other than private use will need a discussion and a go ahead
from me, Catherine
Thompson. If you intend to use the music for
any sort of sampling, please let me know.
The
Sun and the Wind section will be musically
expanding as the years go by.

Sun and wind podCast
Podcasting is a new element that I am exploring. Added intermittently , the podcasts will engage with ideas to do with nomadic living, the place of the dominant culture in connection to the wild world, the need to create a major shift in our place on the earth ... and other stuff.

The Sun and the Wind Project Music
Music in this section is directly related to The Sun and the Wind Project. The project is a wide ranging and adventurous endeavour. The intsruments are mostly made by myself with simple hand tools and reflects skuld's journey to find a transition from the domestic to the wild, the constrained to the free. |

Centre Music –- Recorded Autumn 2011 |
| If the heart was a hunter, it would hunt in the dark |
recorded November 2011 at The Banff Centre. Using mysemi-improv cora piece ona Bulerias compas (recorded live below) and a poem by Jana Irmert (who did the fabulous recording and mixing) as a starting point. Layered Cora, Igil, Bodhran and Voice. Stacie Dunlop on vocals as well. Stacie and I improvised on what I had recorded all in one take.
Here is Jana's poem that was very much where the piece took off from:
Now this crow is an eagle
and this trout is a shark
if my heart was a hunter
it would hunt in the dark |

dance music
I have been composing for contemporary dance theatre for many years and below you will find a number of examples of recorded tracks as well as info about who choreographed the dances. I am deeply endebted to all of the dance artists involved, many of whom you won't see names below because of space limitations. For me, creating with dance is very much a collaborative art. The music wouldn't exist without all those involved – choreographers, interpreters/dancers, designers etc – if you wish more information on any of the music here please contact me by email |
